Field Training Exercises (FTX)

Cadets are required to attend at least one weekend field training exercise a year as it is part of their mandatory training to pass their level.

The squadron normally holds three FTXs each training year; one for the Level 1s & 2s in late Winter-early Spring, one for the Level 3s & 4s in early-late Fall, and a year-end squadron wide event in late Spring. Cadets are expected to attend the FTX that is for their level.

Included in a FTX is multiple mandatory and compulsory classes that are a part of their cadet training that can’t otherwise be taught at the unit on a Monday evening. This makes attendance at these weekends so important because it is impossible to replicate some of the lessons taught inside the Armoury. Cadets will learn survival skills such as: shelter building, how to collect water, how to build a fire and signal fires, map and compass and many more.
